El Museo de Arte e Historia del Centro Cultural Biblioteca Ecuatoriana Aurelio Espinosa Pólit tiene su orígen en la colección de arte ecuatoriano iniciada por el P. Francisco Vásconez, S.J. en 1925. Cuatro años más tarde, en 1929, cuando el P. Aurelio Espinosa Pólit funda la Biblioteca de Autores y Temas Ecuatorianos -que hoy lleva su nombre- integra el museo como área esencial de la biblioteca. Nuestro fundador se anticipaba así al criterio de la UNESCO que entiende una biblioteca no sólo como un repositorio de impresos sino también de material gráfico y audiovisual.
El museo comprende 10 salas que recorren el arte ecuatoriano desde la época precolonial hasta la primera mitad del siglo XX. Además, contamos con una Sala de Historia donde nuestros visitantes pueden conocer objetos históricos únicos como el manuscrito original del Himno Nacional y varios objetos relacionados con el presidente Gabriel García Moreno.
El recorrido incluye también la visita a la Sala de Ciencias Naturales donde es posible apreciar muestras de la colección de lepidópteros del P. Francisco Piñas, S.J., y el herbario creado por el P. Luis Sodiro, S.J. a finales del siglo XIX.
Además, contamos con una galería de escritoras y escritores ecuatorianos, un pasillo dedicado a la tecnología que marcó el siglo XX y la sala que evoca la intensa actividad cultural desplegada por el P. Aurelio Espinosa Pólit, una de las mayores cumbres de la cultura ecuatoriana en el siglo XX.
